Amy Leighton - Mindset and Confidence Coach
This Freelance Insights interview features mindset and confidence coach Amy Leighton.
I’m really excited to introduce you to someone who’s an expert in confidence and mindset. While my signature mentoring programme is called Charge with Confidence, it’s very much about the confidence you gain from having done the pricing calculations in your business to really understand the numbers. I’m not an expert in the mindset side of things, so I thought it would be interesting to speak to someone who is!
Amy has a free quiz on her website that gives you a better understanding of your mindset and approach. Once you’ve completed it, you’ll receive a personalised action report to help you start overcoming any obstacles you might be facing. How do you describe what you do for work?
I’m a mindset and confidence coach, which means that I help people get unstuck from where they are right now. I support them to shift their mindset, thoughts and beliefs to get them to where they want to be. I help them gain clarity on their goals and visions for their life and business. And from there, we reframe their thoughts and beliefs, and unpick the things that are holding them back.
What's your favourite thing about working freelance?
My favourite thing is having the freedom to organise my time, my diary and my schedule in a way that works for me. I love being able to decide when I go on holiday or take time off without having to run it by anyone else first. I don’t take client calls on a Friday afternoon or a Monday morning, and having the flexibility to be able to make that choice for myself is something I really enjoy.
Where do you usually work from?
Nine times out of 10, I work from my little office at home. But if I need a creativity boost, or if I’m feeling a little bit stifled, I’ll end up taking myself to a coffee shop down the road. They’ll have some jazzy music on, and I’ll get a coffee, spread myself out on a big table and get back in my flow! So most of the time I’m at home, but sometimes I get out and about just to mix things up a bit.
What does a normal working day look like for you?
I’m an early riser, and I’m also early to bed, so I usually get up between 5:30-6am. I enjoy having time to myself to meditate and maybe journal a bit, and I try to do some form of movement as well. Client calls tend to start around 10am. I’ll do a couple of calls before lunch and maybe another couple of calls or a live after lunch. Then I’ll have dinner, watch a bit of telly, walk the dog, and I’ll be in bed by 9pm!
What one tip would you give other freelancers about running a freelance business?
I would say to focus on one thing. It’s very easy to feel like you have to do everything, running your own business and dealing with the demands of your personal life. If you try to do it all, you end up doing a bit of everything but not necessarily doing it well. Instead, in your business, try to focus on one thing only at a time. By leaning into it, you’ll start to see results and the confidence will come.
